The officer arrived at the apartment unit around 11:30 a.m. and was met by one juvenile, who was home alone at the time.
When the male child opened the door, “I smelled feces and urine and flies flew from the apartment,” the officer documented in the incident report.

The officer, who made note of an “abundance of flies” throughout the home, also observed feces and urine on the floor of each room inside the unit as well as a dog barking from the closet.
The child was asked to exit the apartment and the juvenile told the officer there was no food for him to eat in the apartment. He also informed the officer he had a brother who also lived with him at the unit.
Officers contacted the childrens’ mother, Hermelinda Sanchez Martinez, 44, who was arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanor reckless conduct.
Martinez was booked into the Roswell city jail.
