River Eves joins 12 other elementary schools in the state that have earned this distinction.

The extensive, three-year application process required that the school meet rigorous state criteria, including the successful integration of high-level math and science instruction, regular teacher collaboration in STEM, and documentation of support from active and relevant partners.

The process also included a GaDOE STEM certification team visit, classroom observations, and interviews of students, teachers, parents and STEM partners.

Since launching its STEM program in 2013, River Eves’ students have used an engineering design model in all subjects and engaged in rigorous classroom and project-based work, including constructing a replica of a bridge for nearby Roswell Road and developing ideas for alternative power sources.

“Our staff, PTA, Foundation and STEM partners had a shared vision to transform the curriculum, add a STEM Lab, and incorporate engineering and technology, which captured the students’ interest in STEM while developing their critical thinking, problem-solving and collaboration skills,” said Principal Neil Pinnock. “We’re equally proud of the students and this honor.”

State School Superintendent Richard Woods, State STEM Coordinator, district officials and other dignitaries will visit River Eves for a celebration in December.

River Eves Elementary School has earned numerous accolades, including two Reward School Titles for Highest-Performing Title I School.

The River Eves PTA, Education Foundation and business partners collectively give approximately $100,000 annually to provide enrichment for a diverse group of students.
