Roswell 9-1-1 Center Receives Accreditation Status

"The Commissioners were complimentary of our excellent training and quality assurance program," said 911 Director Melissa Alterio.

From the Roswell Police Department: The Roswell Police Department is pleased to announce that our 911 Emergency Communications Division has been awarded our first Public Safety Communications Accreditation through the Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

In order to achieve accreditation, a highly prized recognition of law enforcement and communications professional excellence, the RPD 911 Emergency Communications Division was required to demonstrate full compliance with 212 state-of-the-art performance standards focusing on four areas of responsibility: policy and procedure; management; operations; and support services.

A CALEA-certified public safety practitioner verified compliance with the performance standards through a file review and on-site assessment in October 2017. The public was invited to offer comments in writing or by telephone about the RPD 911 Emergency Communications Division’s ability to meet the standards.

“The Commissioners were complimentary of our excellent training and quality assurance program,” said 911 Director Melissa Alterio. “This is an incredible accomplishment and a true testament to the dedication, professionalism and hardworking team of 911 professionals of Roswell 911. I couldn’t be more proud.”

CALEA accreditation requires a communications center to develop a comprehensive and well thought out uniform set of written directives. It also requires a preparedness program be put in place, so a communications center is ready to address natural or manmade unusual occurrences.

Accreditation is for four years, during which the RPD 911 Emergency Communications Division must submit annual reports attesting to continued compliance with those standards under which it was accredited.

Chief Rusty Grant, Director Melissa Alterio and Communications Supervisor John Potrzebowski attended the Spring CALEA Conference in Frisco, TX on March 24, 2018 where they received the official accreditation status from the CALEA Board of Commissioners.

Members of the Roswell 911 Division will receive recognition of their achievement at the March 26, 2018 Mayor and City Council Meeting beginning at 7pm.
