🌱 Roswell City Council Meeting + Full-Time Firefighters + Unicorn Car

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Roswell.

Good morning, Roswell! It's me, Nicole Fallon-Peek, your host of the Roswell Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening locally.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny, a stray t-storm. High: 88 Low: 70.

Here are the top five stories today in Roswell:

  1. At the Roswell City Council meeting on Jun. 27, the council proclaimed Commander Barbara Rodgers an Esteemed Veteran of Roswell for her service to the community and country. Mr. Richard Arena was approved as Roswell's representative to the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) Citizens Oversight Council. The council also approved the FY 2022 End of Year Budget Amendment and more. View the link to see the full recap of the council meeting. (Press Release Desk )
  2. Over the next five years, Roswell is transitioning to full-time firefighters to improve public safety and response times. Councilwoman Christine Hall said that Roswell has reached a population size where a full-time fire department is "necessary to maintain the high level of service our first responders have traditionally provided." Mayor Wilson described the current situation as a public safety problem, now that the city has nearly 94,000 residents. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. John, from Roswell, found his 1973 Chevy big block Mako Shark abandoned in a farm lot. The Mako Shark was a "futuristic concept" designed by GM that never actually made it to market. Its curvy design and strange paint, dark blue that melts into silver, are not the only reasons that the car is rare. John found one of the prototype concept cars, since the car never made it to market the prototypes are the only ones that exist. John said, "It's like a unicorn." (Hot Cars)
  4. Phineas, an adorable black-and-white spotted male Pointer, is a young puppy at Two Tailz Rescue in Roswell and is looking for his forever home. Click on the link to see Phineas and many more adoptable pets in your area. (Roswell Patch)

Are you a Roswell resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
