Roswell Cop Saves Deer Trapped In Fence

An officer used a scissor jack to spread the openings of a wrought iron fence just enough to allow the deer to escape.

ROSWELL, GA -- Many metro Atlanta and Georgia are well aware of the co-existence between deer and people, and the occasional encounters we may have with these four-legged animals. However, with growth and suburban sprawl encroaching on previously wooded areas, many of these animals have found themselves encountering human inventions they were not prepared to navigate on a daily basis.

One instance occurred recently in Roswell, as a deer became trapped in a wrought iron fence that separated the backyards of two homes on Lancaster Square off Houze Way, police spokesperson Lisa Holland said.

According to the Roswell Police Department's Facebook page, on officer who was dispatched to the call was able to use a scissor jack to spread the openings of the fence just enough to allow the deer to escape.

"After she got free, she ran off and exited the back yard through another gate toward a wood line nearby," Holland added. "There seemed to be no injuries except where she was rubbing her sides on the fence as she was struggling. It was raw and (had) slight bleeding."

The homeowners shared photos and their appreciation for the Roswell officer's assistance with the incident.
