Here are the top five stories in Roswell today:

  1. The City of Roswell has announced the fire department will transition to full-time staffing. Over the next five years, RFD will transition from a staffing model that has relied on part-time employees to one that will be staffed entirely by full-time employees to better serve the growing community. This summer will mark the beginning of the transition, with the recruitment and hiring of 21 full-time fire captains. (Press Release Desk)
  2. The city of Roswell will extend its moratorium on certain new apartments for 60 days. On Monday, City Council approved the extension of a moratorium on conditional-use applications for new apartments, unless they're within a mixed-use project with 75 percent non-residential space. The moratorium will be extended while officials tweak the development code. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. Stay safe and cool during the heat advisories in Roswell and surrounding areas. If you or someone you know need a place to go, a cooling center in nearby Atlanta has opened at the Old MLK Natatorium on Boulevard NE.
