Roswell Mayor Receives Threatening Voice Mails
Jere Wood told Patch the caller threatened to "smash" his head in and accused him of using chemical weapons to harm people with disabilities

ROSWELL, GA -- Roswell Mayor Jere Wood was the target of threatening voice mails left at his downtown law office this week. That's according to the Roswell Police Department, which confirmed to Patch it looked into the matter.
An incident report released by the Roswell Police Department provides no details on what the message said, and only made note of the time that Wood, 68, called officers to report the voice mails. Officers were dispatched around 9:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20 to Wood's law office at 1173 Canton Street.
Roswell police spokesperson Zachary Frommer said detectives followed up on the messages, which Lt. Noah Caplan said were "mostly incoherent statements" made by a caller living in the city.

When reached Wednesday, Wood said his legal assistant heard two messages that were left on the firm's general voice mailbox. Those messages contained a few "F bombs," threats to "smash" his head in, and accused the mayor of using chemical weapons to harm people with disabilities.
“I think he just was going after someone in a position of authority," he said of the caller.

Frommer said it was apparent that the nature of the call was from someone who was dealing with some "mental health issues," which was confirmed by a detective assigned to the case. As a result, Frommer said the case was handled without the department pursuing criminal charges.
Wood said he was satisfied with the police department's recommendation that no charges were going to be filed in the case.
"I don’t think was directed as me as an individual, but as an elected official," Wood told Patch.
