Roswell North Students Have Memorable, Hands-On Reptile Experience

Mr. Greg the Reptile Man recently paid a visit to first-graders at Roswell North Elementary School.

ROSWELL, GA -- It was an exciting day today for first-grade students at Roswell North Elementary School.

They learned about endangered species and reptiles with a visit from Mr. Greg the Reptile Man.

Students learned how to properly touch the reptiles, and how each animal uses special adaptations to survive. Mr. Greg shared a variety of reptiles with the students, including a 105 pound, 13.5 inch long albino Burmese python, a bearded dragon, and a six month old American alligator.

He also explained the important role reptiles play in our communities. Mr. Greg has over 13 years of experience with reptiles, working at several large zoos as well as the Chattahoochee Nature Center.

“There is no better way to excite people, especially children, to the incredible wonders that our natural world provides than by opening their eyes in wonderment with a close yet very safe encounter with a living animal,” Mr. Greg said.

This hands on learning experience supports the school’s initiative to increase student engagement in classroom activities, and to increase opportunities for real-world application.

It will be a long lasting impression for Roswell North’s first graders, and was made possible through Roswell North Elementary PTA's SEM (Schoolwide Enrichment Model), and through the generosity of RNE’s PTA.
