Roswell North Elementary Students Enjoy Special Visit From Dads Club

Dads Club volunteers read books to the school's pre-kindergarten through second grade students.

What elementary school student doesn’t love a good book? Especially when that book is read by a special guest.

Students at Roswell North Elementary (RNE) enjoyed visits from the RNE’s Dads Club last week. “Reading with Dads” is held at least four times a year.

During this event, Dads Club volunteers read books to RNE’s Pre-K through 2nd grade classrooms.

Roswell North Elementary Dads Club was created in 2008 with the goal of getting dads (and other father figures) into the classroom, interacting with students and faculty.

RNE’s Dads Club can be seen helping out with carpool, greeting kids as they enter the school in the morning, squeezing lemonade at the annual Harvest Festival, and helping to build RNE’s award-winning youth day parade float.

The activity that Dads Club members and RNE students alike enjoy the most, however, is “Reading with Dads.”

“In schools, volunteers are often referred to as ‘room moms’ and ‘PTA moms,’ but at RNE we are so lucky to have a strong network of involved dads, grandfathers, uncles and brothers,” said RNE Principal Maureen Lilly. “This reading program is part of RNE’s strategic plan to encourage families to participate in classroom learning. Together, we will do GREAT THINGS this year at RNE!”
