Roswell Proposes 2021 Property Tax Rate To Stay At 2020 Level
This will be the third year in a row that the City of Roswell has kept the rate of 4.955 mills.
ROSWELL, GA — The City of Roswell is tentatively proposing a property tax rate—also known as the millage rate—for fiscal year 2021 of 4.955 mills.
The city council will hold three virtual public hearings to consider the proposed millage rate on the following dates:
- Monday, Aug. 24: During the Virtual Mayor and City Council Meeting at 7 p.m. (First Reading)
- Wednesday, Aug. 26: Virtual Special Called Public Hearing at 6:00 p.m.
- Monday, Aug. 31: Virtual Special Called Public Hearing at 7:00 p.m. (Second Reading and City Council vote to determine the final FY 2021 millage rate)
In 2018, Roswell City Council lowered the millage rate from 5.455 (a level it had been kept at since 2009) to 4.955 for 2019 to help offset the impact of increased property assessments in Fulton County. If the proposed 2021 rate of 4.955 mills is adopted, it will be the third year in a row that the City of Roswell has kept the rate at this level.

In November 2018, voters in Roswell approved the adoption of a "floating" homestead exemption. This exemption capped the annual increase to a property tax bill, starting in 2019. Citywide, Roswell residents realize nearly $3.3 million in tax savings annually (an average of $114 per household) as a result of Roswell’s homestead exemptions (the floating homestead exemption, as well as exemptions for those age 65+ and disabled veterans).
Due to ongoing efforts to encourage physical distancing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the millage rate public hearings will be conducted virtually using Zoom Meetings. Members of the public who would like to address mayor and council during the public comment portions of the meetings must submit an online comment card online and join the live meetings via Zoom. Specific instructions regarding this process will be shared closer to the meeting dates.
