Roswell Proposes Maintaining Property Tax Rate
Last year, the City Council voted to lower the millage rate from the rate it was set in 2009, to help offset increased property assessments.
ROSWELL, GA — The City of Roswell is tentatively proposing a property tax rate—also known as the millage rate—for fiscal year (FY) 2020 of 4.955 mills.
City Council will hold two public hearings to consider the proposed millage rate during the City Council Meetings on July 22, and Aug. 12, both at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Roswell City Hall, 38 Hill Street. During the Aug. 12 meeting, City Council will vote to determine the final FY 2020 millage rate.
Last year, Roswell City Council voted to lower the millage rate from 5.455—a level it had been kept at since FY 2009—to 4.955 mills in an effort to help offset the impact of increased property assessments in Fulton County.

In November 2018, voters in Roswell and other Fulton County cities approved the adoption of a "floating" homestead exemption. This exemption sets a property owner’s assessment back to the lowest level of the previous three years (with an adjustment for inflation) and incorporates a cap that limits the annual increase to a property tax bill, starting in 2019. Citywide, Roswell residents will realize more than $3.3 million in tax savings in 2019 (an average of $117 per household) as a result of Roswell’s homestead exemptions (the floating homestead exemption, as well as exemptions for those age 65+ and disabled veterans).
