Roswell Recreation Commissioner Jay Small Running for Council Post 4 Special Election
Jay Small has announced his candidacy for the vacant seat on Roswell City Council for the March 21st special election.
Early November Jay Small announced his intention to run for the recently vacated seat for Roswell City Council (election to be held on March 21st 2017 in a special called election). Jay has always been solidly grounded in a base of community service. Recently it has been his greatest pleasure to serve his city and community in many ways. Over the past six years he served as HOA President of Barrington Farms HOA off Old Alabama Rd; President of the Friends of the Roswell Parks (501c3); Treasurer of the Northwood Elementary Foundation (501c3); School Governance Council (SGC) member for Northwood Elementary School; and one of the seven appointed Commissioners of the great city of Roswell’s Recreation Commission. Jay grew up in Indiana and received his degree from Indiana University in General Studies (Mathematics and Science). He has worked for Compass Group, a food services contract company, for the last 16 years of his professional life (currently as Director of Internal Audit). He and his husband Neil have been proud residents of the city of Roswell for the last 13 years, and are raising their amazing son Anderson (7 ½ years old) in the great city of Roswell.
His vision for Roswell is one of unity. “Roswell must bridge the gap between the historical past and attributes of our city with its recent growth while realizing our current situation and place in the North Fulton County community and beyond. I believe in a connected city, one that connects neighborhoods by trails, sidewalks, and multi-use paths”. Being a Commissioner for Recreation and Parks has been Jay's passion and joy the last four years. His vision for Roswell is grounded in the belief that parks and green spaces are crucial to not only the city's identity but its future. As such his goal/desire is to see projects focused on that area realized in the coming years. This needs to include realizing the River Master Plan, buying up and preserving areas around our existing park land (such as seven branches), starting and completing the City Green project (adding public art and points of interest to make it a destination that residents and tourist want to visit over and over), and connecting all our neighborhoods to local parks and green spaces. Of course Roswell cannot shape its future without addressing its commercial corridors and development, and redevelopment, needs in the city. Jay believes Roswell must respect its history and neighborhoods, while focusing its attention on putting commercial development in areas where it is most needed and will thrive the most. Jay believes development must be focused and thoughtfully placed and designed.

It has been one of Jay's greatest joys to get to know all our city department heads. Roswell has an amazing city staff of dedicated employees and department heads. They care just as deeply about this city as our residents. With their help Jay believes we can imagine Roswell and what it needs to be now and in the future. Roswell has a great 2030 Comprehensive plan that got amazing citizen input, and the city must get back to working with that plan and what the citizens of this great city envisioned for it. Together with Jay we can make a difference. #JaySmallForRoswell You can find more about Jay and by going to his Facebook page "Jay Small For Roswell City Council" or going to his website "www.JaySmallForRoswell.com".
