Once confined to golf course communities in Roswell, PTVs are an alternative to traditional automobiles and are particularly useful for local trips in residential areas, according to the city.

To operate a golf cart/PTV on a public roadway, you must first register your vehicle with the city of Roswell. This process requires you to (1) sign an affidavit to attest that your vehicle meets all requirements (see below) and (2) pay a $15 registration fee, good for five years.

Registration forms and certificates will be available at the Roswell Finance Department at City Hall, which is at 38 Hill Street Suite 210 or online after July 1.

Roswell has incorporated Georgia state law concerning PTVs into its requirements. These include:

  • A braking system
  • A reverse warning system
  • Head lamps
  • Reflex reflectors
  • A removable main power switch
  • Tail Lamps
  • Horn
  • Rearview mirror
  • Safety warning label
  • Hip restraints/seatbelts
  • Brake lights are required by the City of Roswell if the golf cart/PTV will be operated at night.
  • Drivers must be 16 years of age or older and be a licensed driver to operate a golf cart.

Maps showing 25 MPH or less streets on which it will be legal to drive a PTV as of July 1 can be viewed here. In addition to the streets shown on the maps, golf carts may be allowed on certain multi-use paths around the city.

The list of permitted locations is being finalized and will be available online soon.

Golf cart use will be prohibited on any state routes, such as S.R. 92, S.R. 9, S.R. 120, S.R. 140; streets with posted speed limits of 30 MPH or higher; any sidewalk; trails within any park (including Riverfront Trail/Park); and facilities labeled with signs stating that the use of golf carts is prohibited.
