Roswell Showstoppers Go 'Under the Sea' With Disney Performance

Go “Under The Sea” for 60 minutes of smiles and laughter when Roswell’s Showstoppers presents “Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr.” next week.

The show will take place Friday and Saturday, Jan. 30-31 at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. The center is at 950 Forrest Street.

This 60-minute musical includes all of the songs from the 1989 Academy Award®-winning animated feature film, as well as three new songs from the 2008 Broadway show. “The Little Mermaid Jr.” takes place in a magical kingdom beneath the sea, where a beautiful young mermaid named Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her father, the king of the sea, escape the clutches of an evil sea witch and convince a prince that she’s the girl with the perfect voice.

The Roswell Showstoppers cast contains approximately 38 middle school-aged students led by Artistic Director Leslie Kelley and Choreographer/Managing Director Nancy Whitehead.

“These talented performers have been working so hard to put together a fun show for all ages,” Whitehead said. “Come see how fantastic your local youth are in ‘The Little Mermaid.’”

The show will be presented at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Jan. 31. Admission is $12 and tickets can be purchased at Roswell Area Park Physical Activity Center at 10495 Woodstock Road or online.

Roswell Showstoppers is a musical theatre performance company of 7-18 year olds run by the Roswell Recreation and Parks Department’s performing arts division, Roswell Performing Arts. The performers are auditioned in May and attend classes in acting, dance and vocals August–May as well as workshops at Walt Disney World and in New York City.

The Showstoppers perform several times during the year at other venues, as well as at Roswell Performing Arts Spring Recitals, including Walt Disney World. Showstoppers’ mission is to give talented performers opportunities to grow their passion and extend to them education towards obtaining that goal.
