Roswell Students Awarded National Merit, Achievement Scholarships

Over two dozen graduating seniors in the Fulton County school system were named winners in the 2015 National Merit and National Achievement scholarship programs.

Along with the prestigious National Merit/National Achievement Scholar distinction, these 38 students earn cash scholarships to use at the college or university of their choice.
Some of the scholarships are sponsored directly by the National Merit Corporation or by businesses that designate awards for finalists with career plans the sponsor wishes to encourage; for children of their employees; or for residents of a community where a company has operations.

They may be renewable for four years of undergraduate study or be granted as one-time awards. Also sponsored by National Merit, the National Achievement Scholarship Program named three Fulton seniors to its 2015 roster.
Identical in rigor and prestige to the National Merit competition, the scholarship is open to African-American high school students.

National Achievement Sponsored Scholarships

Throughout the spring, the National Merit Corp. announces winners of scholarships in several rounds determined by the source funding the awards. The final two rounds of winners, which are for those earning scholarships sponsored by specific colleges, will be announced May 27 and July 13 by the organization.
Qualifying students were identified through exceptionally high scores on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. In addition to having a record of high academic performance, they were endorsed by their school leadership and earned high SAT scores confirming their earlier qualifying test performance.
National Merit Scholarship Corp. conducts the annual National Merit Scholarship and National Achievement Scholarship programs. Scholarships awarded through the programs are underwritten by business organizations and higher education institutions, as well as by the organization’s own funds.
