Roswell Students Raise $50K For Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
This marks the 10th year of NHS fundraising through the Student Series program's Pennies for Patients program.

From Roswell HS: Roswell High School’s National Honor Society (NHS) raised $50,000 to donate to Georgia’s chapter of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), and presented a check to the nonprofit in a ceremony on May 17.
This marks the 10th year of NHS fundraising through the Student Series program’s Pennies for Patients program. In 10 years, RHS has raised over $200,000 to fight blood cancers, making it the top LLS fundraising school in Georgia, and second in the nation against other schools.
To celebrate this milestone, Rachel Newcomer, director of the Student Series for LLS, presented faculty sponsor Ally Williams and several NHS students with the Silver Level Partners Against Blood Cancer Award at Wednesday’s ceremony.

“This is nationwide recognition based on the longevity of the partnership. This year they increased by over $18,000 from last year’s total,” said Newcomer. “As an individual that lost their only sibling to leukemia at the young age of 20 just 10 years ago, I am beyond thankful for the incredible efforts of Roswell HS and the dedication [and] leadership of Ally in the fight against cancer.”
Williams, who has been faculty sponsor of NHS for over a decade, has been part of the total fundraising the student organization has conducted. In addition, as a recognition for her efforts to raise funds for LLS, the 2017-18 RHS yearbook, The Mimosan, was dedicated to her on Friday, May 18. (The yearbook staff dedicates The Mimosan each year to one outstanding faculty member.)
