Roswell Surveying Hurricane Irma Storm Damage
Several traffic signals are not working and a few roads are closed in the city due to toppled trees and power lines.
ROSWELL, GA -- The city of Roswell and its residents are getting a good look at the damage left behind by Tropical Storm Irma as she made her way through Georgia Monday, leaving millions without power and thousands with the task of cleaning up debris. The city also reported various road closures due to trees that have been toppled or power lines that have come to a rest across roads.
Pine Grove Road between North Coleman Road and Lake Charles Drive, Azalea Drive between S.R. 9/Atlanta Street and the Avia Riverside Apartments entrance and the southbound side of Mansell Road at Houze Road were all closed to traffic as of 5 a.m. Tuesday, the city said in its Nixle Alert.
Both Georgia Power and Sawnee EMC are working around the clock to respond to and fix widespread power outages reported in the city due to Irma. With this in mind, Roswell citizens are asked to not call 911 to ask about power outages (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. The Roswell Police Department spent part of Tuesday relaying to residents where they are seeing down trees and power lines on its Facebook page. Officer Lisa Holland said they have a lot of "residual cleanup" that needs to take place following Monday's evening storm.
Traffic lights along Riverside Drive are out, and officers were also observed directing traffic on Holcomb Bridge Road at GA-400.
"There a lot of people who still don't have power," Holland said, adding the traffic signal at Dogwood and Grimes Bridge roads are also out.

Of course, motorists who approach traffic signals that are not functioning are asked to treat those intersections as four-way stops.
