Roswell Urges "Extreme Caution" With Outdoor Burning

If drought conditions worsen or if the city experiences incidents related to fire pits, it could consider banning all outdoor burning.

ROSWELL, GA -- The Roswell Fire Department is strongly advising all residents to use extreme caution with permitted outdoor fires in light of the current drought conditions.

While Roswell’s outdoor burn ordinance allows fires for recreation and cooking, recent weather conditions have made it highly dangerous for any outdoor fires, including ones in fire pits and portable fire places. If you choose to have an outdoor fire, please be careful.

In an effort to keep our community safe, we recommend the following:

  • Clear the area of leaves, dry brush and dead landscaping materials.
  • Have a garden hose available for immediate use.
  • Do not overload the fire pit with materials to burn.
  • Be sure that the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the area.

If drought conditions persist or worsen, or if we experience incidents related to the use of fire pits or any other type of outdoor fire, Roswell will consider prohibiting all outdoor burning until weather conditions improve.

The city's ordinance allows the fire marshal to prohibit all outdoor burning, including fires in fire pits and portable fireplaces.
