Roswell Wants To Regulate Paint Color in Historic District

The City Council will consider a resolution asking the state to grant local historic commissions the ability to also regulate landscaping.

The Roswell City Council on Monday will consider a resolution asking the Georgia General Assembly to give local historic commissions the ability to regulate the exterior paint and landscaping in historic districts.

The council will consider approving the resolution during its meeting, which gets underway at 7 p.m. at Roswell City Hall.

The resolution would ask the Fulton County legislative delegation to introduce a bill that would amend a section of Georgia code to allow local historic preservation commissions to “exercise control” over exterior paint color and landscaping within a historic district.

Roswell was forced to confront the issue in March 2013 when Mac McGee’s Irish Pub on Canton Street painted its exterior a bright red color before opening its doors to the public.

The council will also consider a contract with Advanced Disposal to provide weekly curbside residential waste removal and recycling services to residents and accepting a right-of-way agreement for one parcel for the Houze-Hembree Road intersection improvement project.
