Roswell's Bulloch Hall To Host Book Signing

Authors Gwendolyn Koehler and Connie Huddleston will hold a signing for their new book.

On October 18 at 7 p.m. at Bulloch Hall in Roswell, authors Gwendolyn Koehler and Connie Huddleston hold a book signing for their new book, Divided Only by Distance of Allegiance: The Bulloch/Roosevelt Letters of 1861-1865.

This book of letters is the third volume in a series and is based on the Civil War era correspondence between Mittie Bulloch Roosevelt (who grew up at Bulloch Hall) and her husband, Theodore Roosevelt Sr. Mittie, who had moved from Georgia to New York with her husband, was a supporter of the Confederacy. With her mother, sister and children, including future President Teddy Roosevelt, in their New York home, Mittie tries to stay true to the South while keeping peace at home. The War creates hardships, limiting the family’s correspondence, travel, and finances. With two of Mittie’s brothers fighting for the South, and one dying back home in Roswell, the family’s letters tell of struggles to aid and comfort those they loved amidst the background of the Civil War.

Also authored by Ms. Koehler and Ms. Huddleston, Volume I, Mittie and Thee: An 1853 Roosevelt Romance, portrays through letters the 1853 courtship of Mittie and Theodore. Volume II, Between the Wedding and the War: The Bulloch/Roosevelt Letters 1854-1860, portrays the couple’s early married life together in New York. All three books are available on Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble.com and at the Bulloch Hall gift shop. Information on the books is available at www.bullochhall.org
