First, today's weather:
Mostly sunny and very hot. High: 97 Low: 72.
Here are the top five stories today in Roswell:
- The National Use of Force Data Collection program, an FBI database on police use of force, has produced some findings after years of struggles with voluntary reporting. The agencies in Georgia are among the lowest in the nation for participation in the program, but the Roswell Police Department is an exception. Roswell Police Chief James Conroy said, "Our collective participation in the FBI's reporting program can only provide us stronger, actionable data in our pursuit of the continuous improvement of this profession." (Saporta Report)
- On Jun. 19, Roswell's Juneteenth celebration concluded with "Reflections on Slavery in Roswell" at the Roswell Presbyterian Church. The performance was followed by a potluck dinner and the event ended with community members reflecting on the city's past. (Appen Media)
- Finding a home in the Roswell area just got easier. View the link to see newly listed homes for sale and open houses in your area. This week's real estate roundup includes a 3-bed, 2-bath property on Leeward Lane for $380,000, a 3-bed, 3.5-bath property on Windalier Way for $560,000, and more. (Roswell Patch)
- Roswell was named No. 7 in "8 Underrated Georgia Towns That Deserve A Second Look" by Only In Your State. According to the article, Roswell has a "natural vibe that you won't find in many of the areas around the ATL" and has a great historic district. The article also highlighted The Vickery Creek Trail. (Only In Your State)
- Elaine DeNiro, an Archivist with the Roswell Historical Society, and Charles Grogan, a Roswell Native who has researched and chronicled the history of the African American Community in Roswell for decades, will present "Black History in Roswell: Honoring Our Past" from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jun. 23.
