Here are the top five stories today in Roswell:
- On Jul. 6 just after midnight, the Roswell Police Department (RPD) found 23-year-old Johana Cabrales-Hernandez deceased from an apparent gunshot wound at her home in the 100 block of Old Ferry Way in Roswell. Police are searching for 27-year-old Fabien Perry, the victim's boyfriend and RPD has warrants for his arrest for murder. Perry is described as a black male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, and about 165 pounds; he may be driving a red four-door Honda Civic, and he is considered armed and dangerous by police. Call the RPD immediately at 770-640-4100 with any information about the case or Perry's whereabouts. (Raw News 1st)
- Authorities said that while driving west on Ga. 92 near Woodstock Road in Roswell, 61-year-old Wade McEwan shot at least 14 rounds into 25-year-old Jason Daxon's car. Daxon had allegedly attempted to pass McEwan; when they both reached a stop light, McEwan started shooting. Daxon was hit at least twice, once in the arm and once in the back, and had to undergo surgeries. McEwan is being held without bail for aggravated assault, reckless conduct, and reckless driving. Angeline Peterson, Daxon's fiancée and the mother of his 11-month-old son, thinks the attack was racially motivated. (WSBTV)
- According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 13 cases of monkeypox have been reported in Georgia as of yesterday morning, Jul. 6, five more than last week. Health officials said that the first confirmed case in Georgia was in June 2022 in the metro Atlanta area. (Georgia Patch)
- On Thursday, Jul. 21 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., residents can meet the new Roswell High School principal, LaToya Miley. Miley will be at "Alive in Roswell," at the Hagan parking lot at Norcross and Canton Street. (Fulton Schools)
- Anna Cangelosi of Roswell will be in the Distinguished Young Women of Georgia State Finals program on Saturday, Jul. 23, at the Celebration Hall of Hillside UMC. High school senior girls from across Georgia compete for the title, college scholarships, and to advance to the national level. (Northwest Georgia News)
