School 'Clap-In' Celebrates Tech Partnership With Verizon

Holcomb Bridge Middle School has joined the Verizon Innovative Learning program, which provides free internet access to students.

ROSWELL, GA — More than 150 Verizon employees around Fulton County were joined by Atlanta Hawks mascot, Harry the Hawk, and cheerleaders for the basketball team to participate in a first day of school clap-in.

The event was held Monday, Aug. 6 at Holcomb Bridge Middle School to celebrate the Roswell institution joining the Verizon Innovative Learning, a program that provides free technology, free internet access and next-generation, technology-infused curriculum that fundamentally changes the way teachers teach and students learn to help give under-resourced students the education they deserve.

Since the program launched in 2012, Verizon Innovative Learning has reached over 43,000 students giving them the ability to do more in this world. And the results are nothing short of amazing. Students in VIL show improvements in math and reading, and they’re more engaged in school.

Twenty schools, including two schools from the Fulton County School System, will join the program for the 2018-19 school year, bringing the total to 100 Verizon Innovative Learning schools nationwide. Four hundred Verizon employees will participate in the celebratory first day clap-ins at 54 schools throughout the country during the months of August and September.
