Sen. John Albers Honors Families Battling Childhood Cancer

Georgia State Senator John Albers of Roswell on Wednesday recognized several families with children undergoing cancer treatment as part of Child Cancer Awareness Month at the Georgia State Capitol.

In addition to a senate resolution presented by Senator Albers, the families were honored with a proclamation by Gov. Nathan Deal.

“Each and every child throughout these United States deserves a healthy and happy upbringing that leads to a productive adulthood,” Sen. Albers said. “Childhood cancer can be a deterrent from this ideal goal and too many families are facing the daunting challenges of caring for their sick children. I’m proud to join supporters of Child Cancer Awareness Month as we seek to raise funds and bring attention to this debilitating disease and eliminate it once and for all. My heart goes out to those children who have lost their battle with cancer and to those families who are dealing with the monumental task of grieving for the loss of a child.”

Each year in the United States, almost 13,000 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with a form of cancer; the leading cause of death by disease for children under the age of 15.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month seeks to bring attention to the forms of cancer affecting children and their families, along with the fundraising needs for research and family support programs.
