Roswell Resident Named ‘Outstanding Georgia Citizen’

Kathy Floyd was recognized for her work as an advocate for senior citizens.

ROSWELL, GA — Roswell resident Kathy Floyd has been named “Outstanding Georgia Citizen” for her work as an advocate for the elderly. Floyd is the executive director of the Georgia Council on Aging, which advocates for Georgia’s seniors and their families and provides leadership to CO-AGE, the Coalition of Advocates for Georgia’s Elderly, a statewide organization with more than 940 members.

The award is given to Georgians who go above and beyond in their dedication to the well-being of the state. It was presented by former interim Georgia Secretary of State Robyn A. Crittenden during a ceremony Monday, Jan. 7, at the state capitol.

“I am humbled and honored to receive this award and its recognition of the need for advocacy for Georgia’s growing older population,” Floyd said.

Floyd was advocacy director for AARP in Georgia for 19 years. She has spearheaded legislative campaigns on state and federal issues including Social Security, Medicare, long term care, elder abuse and consumer issues.

She has also served in leadership roles for the boards of directors for Georgians for a Healthy Future, Georgia Watch and the Georgia Gerontology Society. Floyd is a past president of the Dunwoody Toastmasters Club, achieving the Toastmasters President Distinguished Club Award.

A native of Henderson, N.C., Floyd is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA in history, and from Georgia State University with an MBA in finance. She and her husband have one son and reside in Roswell.
