Snow Storm Damages Public Safety Training Center

The Roswell-Alpharetta Public Safety Training Center could be closed from six months to a year, Roswell Fire Chief Ricky Burnette said.

ROSWELL, GA -- The city of Roswell in the coming months will be examining what needs to be done to reopen the Roswell-Alpharetta Public Training Center. The facility has been closed since Dec. 11 due to damage inflicted upon the building during last weekend's snow storm.

Roswell Fire Chief Ricky Burnette said the damage at the building on Maxwell Road occurred between Friday, Dec. 8 and Monday. Official became aware of the damage when staff reported to work.

Classrooms inside the building are closed, and it appears the "structural members of the roof have been compromised," Burnette told Patch.

While the city is still investigating the extent of the damage, Burnette said he expects the building to be closed to area public safety officials anywhere from six months to a year.

"It is just too early to tell at this time," he said. "We are exploring our options for a temporary training facility at this time."

The closure could have some impact on training for departments who rely on the building, so Burnette said that's why the city is looking to find temporary training sites that would be appropriate to use.

According to the city's website, the Training Center provides training for local and state public safety personnel, including police, fire, and emergency medical employees. The training staff at the facility is "committed to preparing our first responders to meet the dynamic demands placed on the public safety community so that they can provide exemplary emergency services to their communities," the city website notes.
