State Superintendent Richard Woods, interim Fulton County Schools Superintendent Kenneth Zeff and Fulton County School Board member Julia Bernath toured the Roswell school Aug. 24 with Principal Neil Pinnock as part of their first joint trip to a metro area school.

The trio watched as third grade teacher Kasey Ellsworth presented population graphs while every student replicated the data with plastic cubes at their desk during a hands-on lesson.

Woods and Zeff also met with a group of teachers and parents to discuss the broad community support that enables technology-based learning in both core and non-core classes.

Robert Dell-Ross, an engineer with the city of Roswell, spoke about the success last year’s fifth-grade students had with researching and planning a new bridge over Vickery Creek. As a result, the school is launching regular project-based learning projects for all grades this school year.

River Eves Elementary School has earned numerous accolades, including two Reward School Titles for Highest-Performing Title I School. The River Eves PTA, Education Foundation and business partners collectively give approximately $100,000 each year to provide enrichment for a diverse group of students.
