Sun Valley Drive Extension Project Ribbon Cutting On May 3

The $4.3 million project extended the existing road from S.R. 9 to Warsaw Road, and included intersection improvements and a roundabout.

ROSWELL, GA — The city of Roswell on Thursday will host a ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of the Sun Valley Drive Extension project. The event will be held at 10:30 a.m. May 3 at the site of the project's new roundabout at Warsaw Road Extension and Finley Drive/Timbercreek Circle. Parking will be available at the east side of the Walmart parking area.

The Sun Valley Road Extension establishes a new route for those traveling from Mansell Road to Alpharetta Highway/S.R. 9, helping to alleviate traffic at the busy intersection of Mansell Road and Highway 9.

The project extended the existing road from Highway 9 east to Warsaw Road, and included intersection improvements, as well as the creation of a single-lane roundabout on Warsaw Road Extension at the entrance to the Creekside at Mansell and Regency at Mansell neighborhoods. The new road extension is a “complete street” with 11-foot travel lanes, 4-foot bicycle lanes, 5-foot sidewalks on the southern side and an 8-foot multi-use path on the northern side.

Before it began construction on the project, the city completed several stormwater improvements, including upgrading an existing detention pond and creating two water treatment cells to enhance water quality and detention before the water reaches Foe Killer Creek.

The project was constructed by Vertical Earth, Inc., and cost approximately $4.33 million. Funding was provided by a combination of Roswell's bond referendum (approved by Roswell voters in November 2012), impact fees and the city’s General Fund.
