Sunshine on a Ranney Day Brings Light to Veteran's Family
Roswell-based nonprofit creates dream room and home makeover for Fayetteville child struggling with long-term illness on Veteran's Day.

Sunshine on a Ranney Day (SOARD), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to creating home makeovers for families with children who have long-term illnesses, will be bringing sunshine to a deserving Fayetteville family this November.
This Veteran’s Day, SOARD is proud to present a special makeover to the McLeroy’s, a military family including an amazing father-daughter duo who together are overcoming challenges of disability every day.
Jeffrey B. McLeroy, Senior proudly joined the United States Army in 1996 with the support of his family. Enlisting as an Infantry Airborne soldier, his career lead him through thirteen years of dedicated service to American families. After two tours in Iraq and many dangerous jumps, Jeffrey returned home to his family as a disabled Veteran. Jeffrey’s daughter, Angel, was born in 1998 with Cerebral Palsy, a neurological disorder affecting the body and muscle movement. Receiving regular therapy and educational support services, the now16-year old has continued to excel and grow into an amazing young woman.

Co-founders of Sunshine on a Ranney Day, Peter and Holly Ranney, gravitated towards helping this well-deserving family. Holly says, “Both Jeffrey and Angel have fought through so many battles that accompany their disabilities and together, they conquer them everyday. Our goal is to really provide a new beginning for this special family, to make sure their home accommodates all their needs and provides a comfortable environment to achieve a renewed sense of hope.”
The McLeroy’s currently have to lift Angel upstairs to her bedroom, as her room is not wheelchair accessible. The Ranney’s will spend weeks on transforming the family’s garage into Angel’s new bedroom and accessible bathroom.

“To be able to give a family who has sacrificed and endured so much is truly an honor and privilege”, says Peter Ranney.
