Tom Glavine To Kick Off Roswell's Summer of Fun Initiative

Residents are invited to join the retired Atlanta Braves pitcher May 31 to celebrate the start of summer with games and icy treats.

ROSWELL, GA -- Tom Glavine, two-time Cy Young Award Winner and retired Atlanta Braves’ pitcher, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch to kick off the city of Roswell’s Summer of Fun initiative.

The public is invited to join Glavine at the Rotary Dream Field at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 31 to celebrate the start of summer with games and icy treats.

The Summer of Fun campaign is a three-month initiative led by the Roswell Recreation, Parks, Historic & Cultural Affairs Department to encourage health and wellness, community activity and, most importantly, fun!

Thirty unique events are planned throughout the city, from June to August, to provide exciting activities and entertainment for all ages.

“The Summer of Fun initiative is all about getting folks outdoors to play and enjoy our parks. We believe that life should be fun," said Morgan Rodgers, director of the city's Recreation, Parks, Historic & Cultural Affairs Department. "Our job is to provide as many opportunities as we can to make having fun easy and accessible for everyone."

  • Free outdoor fitness classes at several parks
  • Free concerts around the city
  • Human foosball
  • A giant slip’n’slide
  • 4th of July Extravaganza
  • Sidewalk chalk contest
  • Back-to-School bike parade
