The Underdogs by Melissa Fay Greene Selected for 12th Annual Roswell Reads
Roswell Reads promotes the value of reading, literacy, and lifelong learning through the community-wide experience of reading a common book.

ROSWELL – The Underdogs: Children, Dogs, and the Power of Unconditional Love, a heartwarming story of several families whose lives are impacted dramatically by highly-trained service dogs, has been announced as the 2017 Roswell Reads book selection. Author Melissa Fay Greene will speak at a Literary Luncheon on Saturday, March 18, 2017, marking the 12th annual Roswell Reads event, where people throughout the city read and learn together.
The Underdogs features dogs trained by 4 Paws for Ability and placed with children isolated by disability, illness or calamity, including a family from Roswell. These poignant stories are woven amidst thoughtful discussions of how the human understanding of dogs has evolved over the years. The Underdogs is an expansion of “Wonder Dog,” Melissa’s New York Times Magazine feature article that went viral, becoming one of the most emailed and searched-for Times articles in 2012.
The book is available for checkout at the Roswell and East Roswell Libraries and in OverDrive® format through the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System website http://www.afpls.org. Books are for sale as e-books and at the Friends of the Roswell Library Book Store and will be on sale at the Literary Luncheon where the author will sign them.
