Weather Stalls Houze-Hembree Roundabout Repaving

While the roundabout recently opened, an inspection determined the asphalt laid by a GDOT contractor does not meet state standards.

ROSWELL, GA -- The arctic blast that moved into Roswell and metro Atlanta late last week has forced crews to delay repaving the new roundabout at Houze and Hembree roads. That's according to the city of Roswell, which said the project has been placed on hold.

City spokesperson Karen Zitomer said to properly lay out asphalt, temperatures must remain above 40 degrees Fahrenheit for the duration of the project.

The asphalt installed by a Georgia Department of Transportation contractor for the intersection improvement project was ruled inadequate by state standards, forcing the company to begin correcting its error.

Georgia DOT has directed the contractor to repave the new roundabout and cover the cost of the replacement, the city said. The repaving may require several days to complete, depending on the weather.

When the project gets underway, the roundabout will remain open to motorists, but drivers should expect temporary lane closures and to stay alert and use caution.
