City Approves Contract Design For Johnson Ferry Roundabouts

Sandy Springs leaders approved amending a contract with Jacobs to perform design work on two proposed roundabouts on the thoroughfare.

The Sandy Springs City Council on Tuesday approved amending a contract to accommodate design work on two proposed roundabouts along Johnson Ferry Road.

Council members unanimously voted to approve amending its existing contract with Jacobs (formerly Jordan Jones & Goulding), which provides a concept report and environmental assessment for the Johnson Ferry Earmark Project.

Jacobs is proposing to perform the design work for $799,988.87. The city would use federal funds totaling $763,253 and local revenue in the amount of $36,736 to pay for the work.

This project is adjacent to the City Center development and could impact the schedule and construction of that large-scale project, city staff noted.

The proposed project would ”address roadway operational issues” with two roundabouts: the first at the intersection of Johnson Ferry Road, Mount Vernon Highway and Boylston Drive intersection and the second located at the intersection at Johnson Ferry Road, Mount Vernon Highway and Mount Vernon Towers driveway.

The city has scheduled an open house for the proposal, which will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 2 at Sandy Springs City Hall.
