Qualifying Starts Wednesday For Sandy Springs Special Election

The election for the District 3 City Council seat will be held on Tuesday, May 24.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Sandy Springs residents who'd like a shot at running for the vacant District 3 seat on the City Council will soon have a chance to formally declare their intentions.

Qualifying for the May 24 special election to fill the seat vacated by former City Councilman Graham McDonald will be held next week at Sandy Springs City Hall.

  • 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13;
  • 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14; and
  • 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 15.

The qualifying fee is $540, and candidates can qualify in the office of the Sandy Springs City Clerk at 7840 Roswell Road Building 500 (citizens can use the main Main/Finance entrance).

Advance voting for the race will take between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, May 2-20 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at the North Fulton Annex at 7741 Roswell Road.

So far, three candidates have announced their plans to run for the seat: Chris Burnett, Joe Houseman and Brian Eufinger.

The nonpartisan election will be held in the Round Program Building at Hammond Park at 6005 Glenridge Drive. The winner of the race will serve out the unexpired term until the 2017 general election.

Citizens who live District 3 and wish to cast ballots in the race must be registered to vote by April 26, 2016. The Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections Voter Division handles voter registration for all Fulton County residents, regardless of the city or unincorporated area where a person resides.
