Metro Savannah's Unemployment Rate Falls to 2.7% in July (savannahceo.com) — Savannah's metro unemployment rate dipped to 2.7% in July, even as the area saw slight month-to-month declines in its labor force and total jobs. State labor officials say every Georgia metro improved, and Savannah still counts more employed residents than a year ago, with resources available for jobseekers and employers through the Georgia Department of Labor.
   

2. Man found guilty of murder in 2025 shooting of 41-year-old sentenced (wsav.com) — A Savannah man has been sentenced in Chatham County court for the 2025 shooting death of 41-year-old Benny Wright on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Prosecutors say Nathaniel Leonard Lewis, who was already out on bond for prior firearms charges, received life with the possibility of parole plus five years after being convicted of multiple murder and assault charges.
   

3. Georgia, South Carolina among states rising in vaccination exemptions (wtoc.com) — Savannah parents are seeing strong kindergarten vaccination rates, with 95% of Chatham County students up to date even as exemptions rise statewide in Georgia and South Carolina. Local health leaders at Memorial Health and the Coastal Health District stress on-time shots to maintain herd immunity and protect vulnerable neighbors. They urge families with questions to talk directly with pediatricians.

Healthy Savannah Partners with Community Members to Provide Resources to Neighborhoods Twenty Community Health Advocates wrap up targeted two-month summer outreach effort to promote preventive health… (carriagetradepr.com) — Healthy Savannah has just wrapped up its latest Community Health Advocate cohort, training 20 residents to share reliable, CDC-informed health guidance across Savannah and Chatham County neighborhoods. Over two months, advocates logged 200 hours at churches, health fairs, and community events, helping neighbors navigate vaccines, illness prevention, and misinformation while building a long-term network of trusted local health messengers.
   

5. Savannah couple opens home to French exchange student for senior year (wtoc.com) — A Savannah couple is hosting a French high school senior studying dance at Savannah Arts Academy, giving her a local home for her senior year. Through the Metropolitan Savannah Rotary Club, the student and host family are connecting with Rotarians, sharing cultures, and joining broader international exchange activities recently held in Savannah.
