"We conducted grid searches as we combed the area. When darkness fell, a helicopter with heat-seeking technology was deployed," Chatham County police said in a news release.
Police confirmed the case is still a missing child investigation.
Chatham County Police Chief Jeff Hadley said in a Facebook post Wednesday that the police department is considering all theories as to how Simon went missing.
“We’re going to hold out hope that he’s still alive, and that we can find him and bring him home safe to his parents,” Hadley told reporters Thursday. “But, we’ll continue to look at all angles and exhaust all investigative avenues.”
Police said an Amber Alert has not been issued because no evidence of abduction has been found.
"We know the disappearance of this child has hurt many hearts, and we know thousands of people are hoping and praying that he is found safe. We promise that we will update you as soon as we have any news," police said in a news release.
Police ask anyone who believe they may have seen Simon to call 911.
