Healthy Savannah Donates Breastfeeding Resource Books to Libraries
La Leche League Mini-Grant Expands Access to "The Art of Breastfeeding" for Underserved Families

(Savannah, GA) – Dec. 17, 2025, Healthy Savannah has strengthened community support for breastfeeding families by using a $2,480 mini-grant from La Leche League to donate 75 copies of the renowned book, “The Art of Breastfeeding,” to libraries and partner organizations across Savannah and Chatham County. The organization delivered 45 copies to the Bull Street branch of the Live Oak Public Libraries system on Tuesday, Dec. 9, and plans to provide additional copies to local organizations and at events supporting pregnant and breastfeeding mothers over the next few months.
The books, which are offered at no cost to library patrons, are available as physical copies and through the library system’s eBook and audiobook platforms. They provide accessible, comprehensive guidance on topics such as nutritional benefits, dispelling common myths, emotional support, strategies for breastfeeding after returning to work, and practical tools for success.

ABOUT THE YMCA OF COASTAL GEORGIA / HEALTHY SAVANNAH REACH GRANT: In October 2025, Healthy Savannah announced continued funding of the CDC’s five-year, $3.8 million Racial & Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) grant, originally endowed in 2023. The funds, administered by Healthy Savannah and the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, support sustainable health equity for racial and ethnic minority populations in low-wealth neighborhoods, focusing on nutrition, physical activity and breastfeeding. Working with over 200 community partners, the Savannah/Chatham County team is advancing these goals through an “upstream” approach. Founded in 2007, Healthy Savannah was honored in 2022 with the CDC’s REACH Lark Galloway-Gilliam Award for Advancing Health Equity. healthysavannah.org | ymcaofcoastalga.org
