Savannah residents describe dangers of crossing Victory Drive ahead of new signal (wtoc.com) — If you cross Victory Drive near Baldwin and Daffin parks, a new pedestrian-activated signal goes live August 27 to make that stretch safer. Georgia DOT installed it at the City of Savannah's request, and Mayor Van Johnson stresses both drivers and walkers must use it responsibly. Locals who navigate the area by foot or scooter say it's badly needed.

Business owners optimistic after meetings with Savannah police on Starland break-ins (wtoc.com) — Business owners in Savannah's Starland District say recent meetings with Savannah Police have eased fears after a wave of summer burglaries, especially following one key arrest. Police and Mayor Van Johnson emphasize increased patrols, video review, and the search for another tattooed suspect. Christopher 'Chris' Gomez (wnegradio.com) — Savannah is mourning the loss of 25-year-old Christopher "Chris" Gomez, who died Friday in Atlanta and will be honored at a local celebration of life on September 12. Raised on Wilmington Island and a graduate of Islands High School, Chris is remembered for his love of flying, his warmth with customers and friends, and his adventurous, curious spirit.
   

4. Battery Creek charged up to make third straight playoff appearance (wsav.com) — High school football fans around Savannah can look forward to Battery Creek chasing a third straight playoff berth as it opens the 2026 season Friday night at Whale Branch. Now in Class 2A after dropping down, the Dolphins are leaning on two-way players to handle brutal August and September heat while trying to secure the program's first winning season since 2002.
