1. Oct. 2 – State Supt. will honor five Savannah schools for Proficiency in Cursive Writing (savannahbusinessjournal.com) — Five Savannah-Chatham County public schools are being honored with Georgia's 2025-26 John Hancock Awards for outstanding student cursive writing, with three earning the top Ribbon of Distinction. State Superintendent Richard Woods will visit Coastal Middle School in Savannah on Oct. 7 to present banners recognizing these schools' efforts to strengthen literacy and writing fluency.
   

2. Halloween Happenings in Savannah – Savannah, GA (savannahherald.com) — Savannah residents have several spooky options lined up for Halloween, from three-hour storytelling tours in Bonaventure Cemetery to haunted comedy on the "Ghost Tours for Morons" bus and in-depth paranormal walks through the Sorrel Weed House. You can also brave the Alee Shriners' haunted house, open every Friday and Saturday night in October, all right here in town.
   

3. SCAD Savannah Film Festival reveals star-studded 2026 lineup (wtoc.com) — Savannah will soon host the 29th annual SCAD Savannah Film Festival, bringing more than 160 films and a slate of Hollywood guests downtown from October 24–31. With galas, craft panels, and Oscar-season contenders, locals can buy passes or single tickets now at the SCAD Box Office or online to join the action.
   

4. Savannah man indicted on rape, molestation charges involving teen (wtoc.com) — A Savannah man has been indicted on multiple felony charges after a Chatham County grand jury accused him of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl he allegedly met on social media. Savannah Police say the encounters occurred at Daffin Park, and the case has now moved from Recorder's Court to Chatham County Superior Court.
   

5. Registered sex offender sentenced to 13 1/2 years for Savannah carjacking (wtoc.com) — A Savannah man identified as a registered sex offender has been sentenced to 13½ years in federal prison for an armed carjacking outside Nancy's Seafood on West Bay Street. Savannah police, with help from a bystander, quickly tracked the stolen vehicle after a crash, recovered the gun used, and worked with federal agencies to secure the conviction and lengthy sentence.
