Cobb Mexican Restaurant Fails Health Inspection

Supposedly clean dishes with food still on them and improperly stored food helped lead to the restaurant's failing grad.

SMYRNA, GA — A Mexican restaurant in Smyrna failed its health inspection this past week, with inspectors citing improperly stored food and supposedly clean dishes with food still on them as problems.

Cielo Blue Mexican Grill & Cantina, at 1080 Windy Hill Rd. in Smyrna, scored a failing 69/U on the inspection conducted on Friday.

Among the problems that inspectors found were uncooked onions and other vegetables being stored underneat raw chicken, beef and fish in a cooler and lettuce being stored unwrapped in a prep unit. A small bowl with no handle was being used to scoop rice and dish pans, containers and cups were being stacked for storage while they were still wet.

Clean dishes and container lids that were supposed to be clean were being stored with food debris still on them and a drawer for knives had "debris and accumulations" in it. Also, a jacket and a purse were being stored on top of onions in a dry storage area.

The restaurant had scored an 80/B on its last inspection in November and a 97/A when it was inspected in April. According to state policy, inspectors will return to check out the restaurant within the next 10 days. If the problems have not been fixed, they could shut down the restaurant until they are addressed.
