Final Harry Potter Film Scores Big

Parkway Pointe 15 sold out eight showings of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" between midnight and 12:15 a.m.

The final installment of the popular Harry Potter series grossed a record-breaking $43.5 million from midnight showings of the film thanks to theaters across the nation like AMC Parkway Pointe 15 off Cobb Parkway.

The previous record for midnight showings was held by “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” which grossed $30 million in midnight showings when it premiered in June 2010.

A representative from Parkway Point 15 reported that the theater sold out eight showings early Friday morning of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2” between midnight and 12:15 a.m. The theater also hosted an exclusive early showing at 9 p.m. and later showings at 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Nationwide the film premiered in 3,800 theaters.

“Deathly Hallows Part 2” is the final installment of the series based on the popular children’s books by J.K. Rowling. The latest film follows Harry, Ron and Hermione as they continue their mission to destroy the seven magical “horcruxes” that contain pieces of the villain Lord Voldemort’s soul. 

The final film is the shortest of the eight in the series, clocking in at 125 minutes. The film has already grossed $126 million globally and is set to be number one at the box office this weekend.
