A GoFundMe effort has raised more than $29,000 this week after Smyrna Police officer Christopher Ewing was killed in the line of duty.

SMYRNA, GA — A GoFundMe campaign has already generated more than $29,000 as of Friday morning for the family of Smyrna Police officer Christopher Eric Ewing, who was killed in the line of duty late Monday night.

Ewing was killed when his police cruiser collided with an SUV being driven by Robert Lorenzo Cox, 35, who was charged with homicide by vehicle, DUI, failure to yield and tampering with evidence.

According to the GoFundMe page, Ewing leaves behind a wife and three daughters, ages 17, 15 and 13.

“Officer Ewing was a friend to all in the department and was a hardworking officer who led by example,” a memorial written on the page states. “He was an officer that when you called for backup, you wanted to hear his voice on the radio saying he was headed your way. His sense of humor and contagious smile will be greatly missed.”

The effort, which has a goal of $50,000, is being run by the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation. For those with questions about donating, call 404-326-3288 or email FallenOfficer@SmyrnaGA.gov.
