K-9 Max Joins Smyrna Police
The chocolate Lab will make his debut Wednesday when he meets the elementary school students who helped choose his name.

SMYRNA, GA — The Smyrna Police Department is getting a new officer and forgive us if we make a rare assessment of him as one of the cutest officers on the force.
K-9 officer Max, a 1 1/2-year-old chocolate Labrador, was purchased by the department after K-9 officer Paco was retired. Officer Travis Seller, a 4-year veteran of Smyrna Police, will be partnered with Max as part of the department's Special Operations Division.
Max is trained in illegal narcotics detection and scent detection for people and items. He also is expected to be an important community relations ambassador due to his fun-loving temperament.

He will make his debut on Wednesday, when he'll make an appearance before students at Belmont Hills Elementary School. Kids at the school had a naming contest for him last fall, when he was purchased. "Max," obviously, was the winner.
