Over the weekend, Wells’ longtime friend Nolan Opp organized a road march up and down Kennesaw Mountain to recognize ’what troops do’ at a spot the two men frequented often due to their shared love of military history, the Marietta Daily Journal reports. Around 60 participants gathered at the mountain on Saturday to join the march. Some active duty participants marched up and down the mountain in a full pack, the MDJ says.
Following the march, Opp led a prayer service for the slain Marine and his family. The MDJ reports that donations were taken up to benefit Wells’ family, who was not present at the march.
