UPDATE: One Injured in Cumberland Area Excavator Fall, Traffic Affected

Two eastbound lanes of I-285 at I-75 have been closed due to the accident.

UPDATE: Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services has released additional information on the excavator accident which sent one person to the hospital and has caused a traffic nightmare in the Cumberland area.

According to department spokeswoman Dennell Boyd, the excavator was moving a trench box at approximately 1:50 p.m. near the intersection of Cumberland Boulevard and Spring Road when it fell over. One person suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital, Boyd added.

The fallen excavator has caused two eastbound lanes of I-285 to be blocked at I-75, Boyd said. It is currently not known how long the interstate will be affected by the excavator’s fall, but Boyd said that Marietta Wrecker is working to get the excavator upright as of 4 p.m.

ORIGINAL STORY: One person suffered minor injuries when an excavator fell on its side in the Cumberland area on Tuesday afternoon, fire officials said.

According to spokeswoman Dennell Boyd, the excavator was operating in the vicinity of the intersection of Cumberland Boulevard and Spring Road when it toppled at approximately 1:50 p.m. One person is being taken to the hospital, Boyd said.

The fallen excavator has caused two eastbound lanes of I-285 to be blocked at I-75, Boyd said. It is currently not known how long the interstate will be affected by the excavator’s fall.
