UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed Near Smyrna
The woman's identity has not been released by Cobb County police.

UPDATE (12:30 p.m.): Cobb County police have released additional information regarding the fatal Thursday morning accident near Smyrna involving a pedestrian.
A woman was attempting to cross Powers Ferry Road at Windy Hill Road at approximately 5:30 a.m. Thursday when she turned and began walking in the southern crosswalk against the signal, police spokesman Dana Pierce said. While in the intersection, the woman was hit and killed by a maroon 2004 Mercedes E500 heading south on Powers Ferry Road.
Pierce said that the driver of the Mercedes, who called 9-1-1 after the collision, has been identified as 62 year old Javad Salmasi of Marietta. Police do not expect to file charges against Salmasi at this time, Pierce added.

ORIGINAL STORY (10:30 a.m.): Cobb County police are investigating an early Thursday morning accident which left a pedestrian dead.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a woman was hit and killed by a vehicle at the intersection of Powers Ferry and Windy Hill roads at approximately 5:30 a.m. Police have not yet released her full identity.

Police haven’t announced whether or not they will file charges against the man driving the station wagon involved in the accident, the AJC said.
