Smyrna City Administrator Resigns

Finance Director Toni Jo Howard has been named the interim city administrator.

The city of Smyrna is in the market for a new city administrator.

City Administrator Eric Taylor resigned his post, Smyrna Community Relations Director Jennifer Bennett told Patch late Monday afternoon. Taylor has accepted a position with Johns Creek as its assistant city manager, Johns Creek spokesperson Rosemary Taylor confirmed.

Finance Director Toni Jo Howard has been named interim city administrator, Bennett said.

Taylor’s resignation was effective Monday, Nov. 24, and Howard’s appointment as interim city administrator was effective Tuesday, Nov. 25.

“Both sides agreed it was in the best interest for his employment to end,” Bennett added, referring to Taylor’s decision. “The termination was without cause.”

The Smyrna City Council during its meeting tonight will discuss how it will move forward with finding a replacement.

Taylor joined Smyrna as its assistant city administrator in March 2006 was named the interim administrator on Aug. 17, 2009. He transitioned to the post on a full-time basis in October of that year.
