Police claim that Lanier, who does not own the injured dog, set the dog house on fire on May 12. The dog, Royalti, a 1 1/2 year old female pit bull, suffered severe burns and disfigurement around the head and neck due to the fire, the AJC said. Royalti is now under the care of veterinarians.

Police have not released any information on a motive for Lanier’s actions, according to the AJC.
