State Senate Race: Jordan, Howard Head To Runoff
Tuesday's special election narrows field to two Democrats who will vie to succeed Republican Hunter Hill on Dec. 5 in the Georgia Senate.

ATLANTA, GA — A pair of Democrats will face off Dec. 5 in a runoff election for the Georgia Senate seat vacated by Hunter Hill, a Republican who's running for governor next year, according to media reports. Contending for District 6 in the state Senate will be Jen Jordan, who won 24.4 percent of the vote in Tuesday's special election, and Jaha Howard, who won 22.5 percent.
They were the top two finishers in a field of eight candidates, which included five Republicans and one other Democrat, according to media reports. District 6 covers parts of Cobb County and northern Fulton County, including Vinings, Buckhead and Sandy Springs.
State law requires a runoff election in races for the Georgia General Assembly if no candidate wins more than 50 percent of the vote. The other candidates in the District 6 Senate race included Taos Wynn, a Democrat, and five Republicans: Leah Aldridge, Matt Bentley, Kathy Eichenblatt, Charlie Fiveash and Leo Smith.
