WellStar Offers Medical Interpreter Training Program

WellStar will offer training for bilingual speakers to become essential facilitators of patient and health provider communication beginning Feb. 28. Bridging the Gap is a 40-hour medical interpreter training program developed by the Cross Cultural Health Care Program.

The program is also offered to bilingual individuals to fulfill their 40-hour medical interpreter pre-requisite for National Certification. At the conclusion of the program, participants will be able to demonstrate concrete skills in medical interpretation and patient advocacy.

An initial language skill assessment will determine acceptance in the program. The assessment including oral fluency tests in both English and non-English is $120. Once accepted, the cost is $520 and includes books and course materials. The classes will be held Saturdays Feb. 28 – Mar. 28 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the WellStar Development Center 2000 on The Exchange Southeast, Atlanta, GA 30339. Attendance in all classes is required.
